McIntosh Racing - towards 2000

Aaron McIntosh from Sydney

31 DAYS AND COUNTING

No news is good news. I think I’ve said that before.  Here it is just the facts and no more.  I am happy with progress ands that’s all it is progress.  You may have known we have just had our Oceanic Championships on Sydney Harbour.  Barbara and I were both successful.

Mistral Oceanic Championships Aug 10-14.

I arrived in Sydney on the 1st August time enough to finish my cross training programme and get back into Sydney Harbour mode.

cid_image001.jpg (17946 bytes)My aim was to take this event as a serious dress rehearsal.  It would be the last contest before the Olympics.   I had all my support team over; we were working out what does and what doesn’t work. Our event was scheduled for 10 races with 2 discards over 5 days.

Training well there’s not much to say in that department.  3-4 hours on the water a day, 3 days on 1 day off, running drills and practise races perfecting the package for the perfect performance in September.

To cut a long story short we had 10 races I placed 4th, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 5th, 12th, 1st, 2nd, 7th, 7th.  I discarded my 12th and a 7th to finish up with 23 points, Lars Kleppich of Australia finished 2nd on 27 points.  3rd was Tony Philip of Fiji on 44 points

We had range of conditions and very shifty winds which seemed to play in to my hands quite nicely.

It was nice to hit my straps a month out but I still have  to work on a few areas. This result was certainly a confidence builder.  I do know that everyone else will be putting in the time to close the gap. I am happy with my speed and I have almost made my equipment selections.

For me it is business as usual, I must admit that I did not make it onto the water today a Southerly wind of 20-25knots rain and 12 degrees did not appeal.  I still felt tired after the last regatta and it would be just too easy to get sick.

30 days to go, scary, but exciting. That’s all for now, watch this space.

Thanks for your continued support.

Off to the Office

office1.jpg (45274 bytes)Hello all,

Well today I finally managed to get some pics done on the harbour.  I thought that this one would give you an example of how easy it is for me to get to the water and train. This little boatshed is at the bottom of my garden.  It's a little tricky getting in and out sometimes.

More news coming soon...

AARON’S MONTHLY SYDNEY NEWS.

How can I make this newsy letter interesting?  I arrived in Sydney on the 8th of June.

Day one.  I don’t think so!

Try again.  Well don’t have much to report on, Oh yes today was my day off, I watched 2 videos (Fight Club and The Wog Boy) Recommend both and made Bran muffins, quite tasty if I don’t say so my self.

So far so good, everything has been going to plan, I have done more hours on the water than I had hoped and my gym programme was going perfect until 2 days ago. The problem was I could not get out of bed.  Coach Grant Beck has been with me for the last 10 days and has been shaking the whip on the water.  I continued my off the water training with some added Yoga for my flexibility and then I crashed.   I put Grant on the plane yesterday, thank you very much nice to see the back of him and put my feet up, more like my head down.

Winter in Sydney is mild, a couple of degrees warmer then Auckland on average, although we have had some cold days and the purchase of a big heater was needed for those cold nights.  The only problem with good weather in winter is that when its sunny there is no wind, I mean glassy (pic attached) am1.gif (19269 bytes) and when the temp drops  the wind seems to blow.  You just can’t have it good all the time.

I have made the most of all the wind during the last few weeks the windless days are spent in the gym and at yoga.  Oh yes, I try and rest.  So far, so good.

The first week I arrived Bruce Kendall came over and trained that worked well, the second week Grant arrived and I trained against the Chinese.  They have 6 sailors here 4 men and 2 female?  This has worked out well, we even had dinner with them last week, with my limited Chinese and there limited English we had a funny evening, and the great thing about it was the Chinese Yachting Association paid for it and invited me to race in China during November.  I had to say I would think about it, I hadn’t planed on any windsurfing at least for a few months.

Back into it tomorrow (by the time you get this it will be tomorrow)
