Napier

Napier is thriving town with fishing, wine-making and agri- culture providing the main industries. Take a tour around some of the many vinyards, or visit the Aquarium or Marineland on wind- less days. Drive to the Bluff Hill look- out for views over the harbour, city and Bay or, in summer, visit the Gannet Colony out on Cape Kidnappers.

1 PANDORA POND

5 minutes drive from town. Toilets, grass rigging, BBQ areas. Best 2 hours either side of high tide.
Suits: Slalom, longboarding. Beginners......
Wind: NW is best. NE seabreeze is Ok, other directions Ok.
Water: Flat.
Watch: Other pond users. Lots of sand banks - so keep to main pond.
Hire School: In summer from local shop.

2 WESTSHORE

Access:
Opposite the pond - there is a sandy beach, toilets, grass rigging areas, good parking.
Suits: Slalom, longboarding. Beginners....
Wind: Either heaps or no wind. NW is best. N,NE,SE Ok.
Water: Small chop.
Watch: A few sharks.

3 OCEAN BEACH (& WAIMARAMA)

Wave sailing
Access:
45 minute drive south of town. Sandy ocean beach. No facilities.
Suits: Wavesailing. Experienced
Wind: SE,S,SW. Predominant wind which often brings rain and squalls.
Water: Rough up to 2m.
Watch: Rips. Mean shore break.
