Buying your first board
Windsurfing
is a fun sport enjoyed by thousands of sailors around the world. The correct selection of equipment at entry level will determine your enjoyment of this exciting sport. we have listed a few guidelines to assist you in choosing your first board, whether it is new or secondhand. However, we suggest you seek professional advice to select the right equipment to avoid making expensive mistakes on your first purchase.

Board: Needs to be a centreboarder over 3.0 metres which has stability, ease of
uphauling and allows you to sail upwind back to your launching area.

Sail: Recommended size of 4.5 to 6.O sq metres depending on your weight and height. It should be an RAF or narrow luff pocket camber induced style for easy handling and control in gybes and waterstarts.

Wetsuits: A springsuit of 3mm is ideal for summer. For extra UV protection or sailing spring and autumn, a full length steamer is recommended. The rule is to wear more warmth rather than less.

Roof racks: A good secure roof rack with wide gutter mounts is essential to protect your board, car and other road users.

To ensure that you enjoy windsurfing this summer, the team at Wild Winds Sail and Surf will assist you in selecting and rigging your equipment that you own or are considering purchasing no matter where it comes from.
